How can I book a ticket?
Tickets can be purchased on our website, or visiting Box Office or calling 01604 624811. Visit our Booking Information page for further information and Box Office opening times. Please note, you cannot book tickets online without registering – you will only need to do this once.
Do you accept Theatre Tokens?
Yes, we accept National Theatre Tokens and Royal & Derngate Gift Vouchers. Please note National Theatre Tokens can only be redeemed in person or via telephone, they cannot be used or purchased via our website.
Are concessions available on all tickets?
Concessions are available on many, but not all, shows. If concessions are available for a show they will be listed when you hover over the seat map at the booking stage.
Concessions do not apply to the lower price seats in the Upper Circle and the Boxes in the Royal auditorium or any restricted view seats.
All concessions are subject to availability and should be checked at the time of booking. Some concessions and ticket prices may only be available for a limited period, subject to demand.
Do I need a ticket for my child?
Children aged three and above will require a ticket to attend the majority of our shows, while those under three go free. However, when a show is aimed specifically at pre-school audiences, children aged two and above will require a ticket. Please contact our Box Office for advice on a particular show if you are unsure.
How can I find out the age suitability of a show?
When we know the age suitability of a show, we will publish it on the show page, on the left hand side. For more information of why a show may have a certain age recommendation, please contact our Box Office on 01604 624811 for advice. Anyone under the age of fourteen must be accompanied by a paying adult.
How do I collect my tickets?
Tickets can be posted to you for a small fee of £1.50, or collected in person at the box office.
What do I do if my tickets haven’t arrived yet?
All our tickets are posted by Royal Mail second class, so can take up to 10 working days to arrive. If they have not arrived after 10 days please contact our Box Office, who will arrange for either a set of reprints to be issued or for you to collect reprints on the day of the show.
What if I can no longer attend the date I have booked?
Tickets are sold subject to availability and are non-refundable once purchased. When a show is fully booked and we have a waiting list, we will endeavour to sell unwanted tickets, up to 24 hours before the event, on the understanding that a Gift Voucher to the value of the tickets (excluding transaction fees) will be supplied upon resale of the tickets. Where time permits, the original tickets must be returned to the Box Office before resale can be considered. In certain circumstances (and at the Box Office Manager’s discretion) we may be able to exchange tickets within the same production provided we receive the original tickets back and have 24 hours notice on the understanding that an admin charge of £1.50 per ticket will apply. Members of our Friends & Gold Supporters scheme are able to exchange tickets within the same production free of charge. Where tickets are being exchanged we and are unable to hold alternative seats pending receipt of original tickets.
What should I do if I have not received an email confirmation after making a booking online?
If you don’t receive a confirmation email, please check your junk mail and add [email protected] to your address book so that delivery is not prevented by your spam filter. If you still find you have not received the confirmation email, please call our Box Office on 01604 624811 and our Box Office team will be able to assist you.
Can I book a wheelchair space online?
Currently wheelchair spaces are not available to book online. Please call or visit our Box Office to book these spaces.
Why can I not book a Group online?
For selected performances an allocation of tickets can be purchased at reduced prices to those advertised, so by calling Box Office you will always receive the best, most up to date discounts. You can find out these discounts and book by calling the Groups Line on 01604 620066 Monday to Friday, 8.30am – 3.30pm. Outside of these opening hours, you can still make a group booking by calling the Box Office on 01604 624811.
I have heard a particular show is coming to the venue but can’t find it on your website?
The majority of our shows go on sale with our Spring, Summer or Autumn season brochures although some do go on sale in between. We recommend following us on Facebook or Twitter for announcements of new shows going on sale. Shows that have recently gone on sale appear in ‘New Shows On Sale’ section at the top of our What’s On. Our Members receive advanced email notification of many show on-sale dates, alongside priority booking for season brochures and bespoke shows.
When I try to register a new account, it says that my email/username already exists in the system.
If you already have an account with Northampton Filmhouse or The Core at Corby Cube, then you can use this same account at Royal & Derngate. Simply log in with the same username and password to log into your Royal & Derngate account.
How can I register for an account?
If you are booking tickets online for the first time, you will be prompted to register an account. To register for an account at any time, clicking the shopping basket icon at the top of the page, or the Log In button at the bottom and click Register. Click here to register a new account.
How can I log into my account?
You can access your account online by clicking the shopping basket icon at the top of the page, or the Log In button at the bottom. Click here to log into your account.
How can I update my name, address or email address on my account?
To update your details, log in to your account and click on the shopping basket icon at the top of the page. Click Manage My Account and then Edit Your Account Information to update your details, then Save Changes.
I wish to subscribe/unsubscribe from your mailing list
If you wish to subscribe/unsubscribe from post or emails from us, simply log in to your account and click on the shopping basket icon at the top of the page. Click Manage My Account and then Your Contact Preferences to update your details, then Save Changes. You can also speak to our Box Office in person or on 01604 624811.
I am having trouble getting into my account
Please check you are using the correct email address and password and that Caps Lock is turned off. If you have forgotten your password, click Forgot Password? and enter your email address. If you have changed your email address, your original email will remain your login. You will need to log in using your original email address and change your log in email address via the Edit Your Account Information tab. If you are unsure of which email address you are registered with or are having issues logging in, please contact our Box Office on 01604 624811.
I couldn’t log in so I created a new account
Please contact our Box Office in person or on 01604 624811 and they will be able to merge your accounts with your preferred email address.
I am subscribed to your mailing list but have not received/have stopped receiving emails
Please log in to your account and click on the shopping basket icon at the top of the page. Click Manage My Account and then Your Contact Preferences to check we have the correct email address for you and that you have ticked that we may contact you by email. Please also check your Junk/Spam folders to see if any emails from [email protected] or [email protected] have been sent there. If everything seems ok with your account, please get in touch with our Box Office and let them know your name and preferred email address, and if possible when you last recall receiving an email from us – we will then investigate.
To access your discounts online, please log in with your username and password prior to selecting a show and seats. Your membership discounts will then be displayed when you hover over the seat map to select your seats.

Can I buy a membership as a gift for somebody else?

If I buy a membership can I get the discount applied in the same order or do I need to buy my memberships then my tickets separately?
Your membership discount can be applied immediately if you buy over the counter or telephone. If you buy your membership online, you will need to complete this transaction first. Once the online membership transaction is complete, you can re-login with your username and password and your membership will now be recognised and all discounts will be applied.

Is there disabled parking available nearby?
There are a number of disabled badge holders’ parking spaces to the front of Royal & Derngate in Albion Place surface car park (NN1 1UD), and disabled badge holders can park free along Derngate (NN1 1TY) in permitted spaces. Visit our Access Information page for further information.
I don’t need to park I’m just dropping people off, where should I do this?
We recommend that drop-offs take place on Derngate; from here you can use the entrance to the theatre that is next to the Northampton Filmhouse in Albion Place.
What time should I arrive?
Auditorium doors open approx. 20 min before the advertised start time. We advise allowing plenty of time before the show to find parking, collect tickets, purchase drinks and snacks and find your seat.
What happens if I’m late for the start of the performance?
Performances will have a latecomers policy. Each performance varies in their policy and you may be asked to wait until a suitable break in the performance. You may also be required to sit in an alternative area of seating; however, you will be able to take your booked seat at the interval.
Will there be a support act?
Some comedy and music shows may have a support act. Where possible we will update this information on the individual show page – this may not be available until closer to the performance date. For the most up-to-date information, please speak to Box Office on 01604 624811.
Can my child sit on my lap?
Children under three can sit on parents/guardians’ laps free of charge. Please note, for shows specifically aimed at pre-school audiences, younger children may still require a ticket.
Are there hotels nearby?

How can I get a programme?
Programmes are available to purchase for all Made In Northampton shows and many visiting shows at Royal & Derngate. These are available from our Theatre Shop on the day of the performance. Programmes for most shows running for one week or more are available to pre-order via our website or Box Office (orders must be placed before midday on the day of the performance you are seeing).
Can I bring food and drink in the performance?
Drinks (in plastic cups) and cold food purchased at Royal & Derngate can be taken into the auditoria. We kindly ask that you do not consume food or drink in the auditoria that has not been purchased on the premises.
Is photography/video recording permitted?
The use of cameras, video and tape recording equipment is strictly prohibited in both auditoriums and Underground space, due to copyright law and to minimise any disturbance to the performers and other audience members.
Is there a dress code?
We do not have a dress code – the most important thing is that you feel comfortable and enjoy the show. Specific shows may encourage fancy dress- please visit the individual show page for more information.
Do you have booster seats for children?
We have a limited number of booster seats available on a first come first served basis. If you require one, please ask a member of staff.
Can I take a pushchair into a performance?
All pushchairs must be folded up and stored in a buggy park area. A member of staff will show you where this is. Please note that all items are left at your own risk.
Is there a cash machine nearby?
Local cash points are located at nearby banks and supermarkets including Morrisons (off the A5123/Swan St roundabout), Simply Convenience on Swan Street and Tesco Metro on Abingdon Street.
Will there be merchandise?
If a show has merchandise available, a merch stand will be located in the foyer near the cafe. During our Christmas pantomime, merchandise will also be available at selected theatre bars – see signage for more details.
Do you have a cloakroom?
We have a cloakroom which is situated next to the Theatre Shop.

Do you offer work experience placements?
Royal & Derngate operates a work experience programme throughout the year, with the exception of our dark period in August and during Christmas. Placements for students in Year 10 and 11 are for one week only and are presently available in the Technical and Production areas of the theatre.
Please email [email protected] with a covering letter introducing yourself, including the area that you would like to work in, dates of your work experience and contact details.
Specific and longer-term placements for university or college students or anyone who has left education are also available. Please email us for further details.
We do receive a large volume of applications but we will respond to your email as soon as possible.
Makeup/special effects: Please note we do not have a makeup/special effects department and cannot offer this type of placement.
We receive a high volume of requests for ticket donations for charity raffles and competition prizes. We try to accommodate where we can, but if you have not heard from us within five working days, please assume that your request has been unsuccessful.
Can I have a poster for a show as a souvenir?
After the show has finished performing here, leftover posters may become available – please ask at our Box Office. In return, we ask for a small donation. Your donation allows us to continue to be ambitious with our Made In Northampton productions, preserve and maintain our much-loved theatres and develop first-class education opportunities for children and young people throughout our county.
Can I take a behind the scenes tour of the theatre?
Visit our Talks & Tours page to learn about our Behind The Curtain tours, where professional storytellers and actors will guide you to explore the unseen areas of the Royal and Derngate auditoria in a dramatised performance backstage tour. These tours would also make a great gift for a theatre lover.

Can my band play a support slot at a concert?
Most support bands are booked in advance by the show’s promoter.
