Richard Alston has played a major role in the world of contemporary dance for over 50 years, developing a unique and distinct dance language, shaping the art form in this country and creating an international reputation for the Richard Alston Dance Company.
This year marks the final year for the company, and we are thrilled to be able to welcome them back for this last of many stunning performances at Royal & Derngate with their tour Shine On, Shine On.
The evening will showcase Alston’s latest work, Newly Arrived, set to the glorious vocal music of Claudio Monteverdi. One of Associate Choreographer Martin Lawrance’s newest creations will also feature – a revival of Mazur, a duet for two men set to evocative pieces by Chopin – and returning from last year will be the hugely popular Brahms Hungarian. The music for both of these pieces will be performed live by solo pianist Jason Ridgway.
