The Big Lunch At Delapré Abbey

The Big Lunch is the perfect chance for residents from across West Northamptonshire to come together and celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, while enjoying a range of live music, performances, activities and stalls, along with a traditional English picnic.

A brass band, the Step-By-Step Dance School and a host of other performers from across West Northamptonshire will take to the stage during the event, while the Jubilee Pageant taking place in London is set to be broadcast live on a big screen.

Audiences will also be entertained by The Masque Theatre and Living History re-enactment group who are set to give performances in the gardens of the Abbey, plus the ever-popular Silent Disco will add to the party atmosphere!

Anyone looking for a souvenir from the day can browse a selection of unique hand-made items on sale in the Vintage Guru Craft Makers Market, plus a variety of food and drink stalls will be on site, along with the award-winning Orangery Café, for those who don’t want to bring their own picnic.

Jubilee Picnic Box
Enjoy a picnic box for two from Delapré Abbey’s award-winning The Orangery. Prepared from the finest local ingredients, this sumptuous box includes homemade sausage rolls, cheese and onion quiche, a selection of breads, English cheeses, hand cut ham, chutney, olives, cherry tomatoes, pesto pasta salad, celery and dip, a sharing bag of crisps, chocolate brownie, vanilla cupcake and water. The box also includes plates, cutlery and napkins.

Main stage programme

12:00      Entertainment begins with our event compare, Northamptonshire Comedian, Ross Smith, a    regular face at some of the country’s top comedy clubs and well-known locally for his stand-up shows at the Comedy Crate.

12:15      African Dance from Power of the Mind Network  -Storytelling through African cultural dance

12:30      Step By Step dance school Latin Dance Performance, including the Cha Cha Cha, Jive and Samba

13:00      Northamptonshire Music and Performing Arts Trust Band and ‘Low Blow’ group

ACT I: FOR QUEEN AND COUNTRY
A military spectacle, celebrating the UK Armed Forces from all three Services, along with military personnel from across the Commonwealth.

ACT 4: HAPPY AND GLORIOUS
An opportunity to gather and pay tribute to Her Majesty with the singing of the National Anthem, ‘God Save the Queen’. National treasures including Jeremy Irons, Bill Bailey and Gok Wan will join a performance led by Ed Sheeran.

Walled Garden 

The Masque Theatre presents the ‘Jubilee Tea Party Action Committee’
Performances at 12:00 and 14:00
Northampton’s oldest community theatre group Masque have been working with international sensations Spymonkey to create a wonderfully stupid half hour of entertainment to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. The show also features the Ukelele Lady herself Sara Spade as you’ve never seen her before! It’s a free show and is suitable for badly behaved people of all ages – contains some terrible ideas and mild swears.

Funded by Arts Council England and National Lottery Good Causes as part of the #LetsCreate Jubilee Fund – facilitated by Northamptonshire Community Foundation. 

South Lawn 

13:00 – 15:00 Tea Dance, 20 minute slots on the hour and half hour
Join members of the Step-by-Step dance school to learn some new dance moves, including sequence dance, ballroom and Latin American dance. Everyone welcome!

11:00 – 16:00  Silent Disco
Dance to your own tune at the ever popular Silent Disco

11:00 – 16:00  African music with African Youth Rise
Have a go on traditional African drums and pianos – including 45 minutes workshop  and demonstrations given by a drummer and thump pianist.

Courtyard

11:00 – 16:00
Visit craft, food and community stalls.

Lower Delapré Park  

13:30 – 5pm Train rides with Northampton Society of Model Engineers £1 per ride
Take a ride on a model narrow gauge steam-powered train around the miniature railway track. Great fun for children and big kids alike! Visitors are welcome at the railway track from midday to take a look around. The track is located to the left of the main entrance driveway, close to the old gatehouse.

Main House

11:00 – 16:00. Tickets cost £8 per adult
The main house is open for you to explore and best of all, under 18s are free! Come inside and experience 900 years of an exciting and turbulent history. The site of the 1460 Battle of Northampton has an intriguing past for you to discover – from its origins as a Cluniac nunnery, heyday as a country house, and its time as the County Record Office, before the recent restoration.

Step back in time with living history on the day. Delapré’s hands-on approach to bringing history to life provides a unique experience. You can play, explore, and touch every object in each room. Try on a helmet, fire a bow and arrow and create a crest!
