An update from Jo Gordon & James Dacre

Updated 4 January 2021

It has been more than 6 months since we closed our doors on Wednesday 18 March and we are missing our audiences, artists, staff, young people and communities more than ever.

As things stand, there is no clarity from central Government as to when it will be safe for live performance to return without social distancing. As is the case with many venues across the country, it isn’t financially viable to open our theatre with our current programme while social distancing measures are in place. We simply wouldn’t have enough seats safely available to cover our costs. Until we have clearer guidance on when social distancing won’t be required within theatre auditoriums, we’re unable to fully plan when and how we can welcome you back.

Since closure, we have moved more than 140 performances. We’re hugely grateful to all our customers for their patience and understanding during this time-consuming process, and to the many people that have chosen to retain their tickets for later performance dates. We are now contacting all customers with bookings for events up to 18 February 2021. Please click here for further information on all impacted performances. We’re aware there’s still a few shows from our Spring and Summer season that you might be waiting for news on, please bear with us, as soon as we have confirmed alternative dates we’ll be in touch. If you’re unhappy at continuing to wait, please email [email protected] to arrange crediting of your account.

Last year, the idea of Royal & Derngate being closed for nine months was an inconceivable thought. To everyone who has sent a message of support, donated to our Back Together campaign, purchased a membership or championed us on social media, thank you from all of us at Royal & Derngate.
