Thanks to the generosity of our audiences, the general public and local businesses, our Unforgettable Gift campaign, in conjunction with Northamptonshire Community Foundation and Lamport Halls Sir Gyles Isham’s Trust, has raised over £38,000 since it was first launched in 2015, with 2018’s Christmas campaign being the most successful so far.
As a result, we were able to give away hundreds of tickets for our three festive shows, Peter Pan, The Worst Witch and The Everywhere Bear, to children and young people who are at risk of being in child poverty, and contributed to making their Christmas more memorable. Furthermore, we are thrilled that due to the success of this year’s Unforgettable Gift campaign we are able to continue to give away hundreds more tickets to children and families in need this season, for Cirque Berzerk! and The Birmingham Royal Ballet.
Over 20 community groups benefited from the scheme this Christmas, including Northamptonshire Flower, Autistic Children Embrace, Association of Northampton Supplementary Schools, Delapre Dragons, Northampton Youngers and Home-Start Wellingborough. Mandy Hammersley, Co-ordinator at Home-start Northampton, commented: “I only wish you could hear the surprise and delight of our families when they are offered Unforgettable Gift tickets. This wonderful opportunity not only enables our families to see spectacular live performances, which would otherwise be out of their reach but also to enjoy special family togetherness at this time of year”.
From all of us here at Royal & Derngate, we want to give a heartfelt thank you to every one of our supporters who made this appeal so successful. You really have made a difference to the lives of many children in Northamptonshire who wouldn’t normally get the chance to visit the theatre.
