We are thrilled to announce that comedy legend Bernie Clifton, CBeebies star Sid Sloane and comedian and magician Martyn James will join soap and screen star Anita Dobson in this Christmas’s spectacular family pantomime Cinderella, which runs from Friday 6 to Sunday 29 December.
The multi-award-winning stage, television and film actress and singer Anita Dobson takes the role of the Wicked Stepmother. Anita has been a household name for over 30 years, since she rose to fame as Angie Watts, the first landlady of the Queen Vic on EastEnders. She went on to appear in many other television series including Red Dwarf, Rab C Nesbitt and her own BBC sitcom Split Ends. Her numerous stage credits include Mama Morton in Chicago and Madame Morrible in Wicked, both in the West End, Joan Crawford in Bette and Joan, which toured to Northampton.
Starring alongside Anita as her financially-challenged husband Baron Hardup will be comedian Bernie Clifton, star of pantomime, summer season, cabaret, radio and television for over 40 years. Making his name on shows TV shows such as The Comedians, The Good Old Days and Crackerjack, Bernie has appeared on stages up and down the country with his incomparable stand-up and music, not mention his trusty ostrich friend Oswald. In 2016 he was seen on The Voice wowing audiences with his rendition of The Impossible Dream. Following recent success on the ITV series, Last Laugh in Las Vegas, he is touring the country with his one man show, Bernie Clifton – Live on Stage.
Having lit up television screens and children’s faces across the country for 15 years on CBeebies, as a presenter and in dressing up adventure show Let’s Play, Sid Sloane has subsequently toured the UK and abroad with his own live theatre productions. Sid has also worked for the BBC on voice-overs and radio dramas, and presents CBeebies Africa for BBC Worldwide. Sid will be playing Dandini.
Starring as Buttons will be comedian and magician Martyn James, whose quirky style of humour makes him something quite different in the Magic world. His original style has won him many awards such as the British Magical Grand Prix and he is a respected member of the International Brotherhood of Magicians and innovator of many new tricks. He is well known as variety performer and also headlines in the comedy club circuit around the world.
Heading back to dry land after last year’s swashbuckling Peter Pan, the theatre is delighted to be presenting the Fairy Godmother of all pantomimes, Cinderella. Everyone shall go to the ball in this spectacular family production, packed with all of the traditional pantomime ingredients audiences have come to expect from Northampton’s biggest festive production.
Cinderella will feature laugh-out-loud comedy, jaw-dropping special effects, stunning song and dance and plenty of boos and hisses, making it perfect family entertainment.
