Our Made In Northampton 2019 season continues with a stunning new version of Ibsen’s Ghosts, the much-lauded co-production of Richard III and the newly announced, brand new production of The Pope, directed by our Artistic Director James Dacre and starring Anton Lesser.
This Summer’s Made In Northampton programme will feature The Last of the Pelican Daughters, our latest collaboration with The Wardrobe Ensemble following on from the news that their previous co-production of the award-winning Education, Education, Education is to transfer to the West End this summer. Our unique offsite production Splash! will be staged on the banks of the River Nene at the University of Northampton’s Waterside Campus. Following a young girl’s fearless journey of discovery, the UK’s leading professional integrated circus company Extraordinary Bodies bring this spectacular show to life with circus, puppetry, BSL and visual storytelling, creating a multi-sensory accessible show for all the family. Coming to the Underground Studio in a co-commission and co-production with Scottish Opera, Fox-tot! is a brand new opera for 12 to 24 month olds.
The Autumn will also see the theatre staging two 20th century American classics, August Wilson‘s Two Trains Running and Arthur Miller‘s A View from the Bridge, followed by a brand new musical comedy The Season.
Looking ahead to Christmas, Astrid Lindgren’s well-loved children’s book Pippi Longstocking is brought to life on the Royal stage in an epic new musical adventure. Nine-year-old Pippi is strong, brave and fearless, and when she comes to live in her new home with her monkey and horse but no parents and no rules, she brings mischief, chaos and confusion. In the Underground Studio, the captivating story by best-selling author Julia Donaldson and illustrator Charlotte Voake, The Further Adventures of the Owl and the Pussy-cat, is brought to life with stunning puppetry and beautiful original music.
We look forward to welcoming you to Royal & Derngate soon.
