We provide various opportunities for young people to have a meaningful voice through artistic projects that empower and excite them.
Our Youth Theatre is for young people aged between 7 and 12 years old.
Our Young Company is for young people aged between 13 and 21 years old.
We pride ourselves on providing an inclusive and ensemble environment to work in. Inclusive means that we both welcome and seek out participants from the widest possible range of backgrounds and needs, and provide support, where necessary, to overcome any potential barriers to engaging with our work.
Royal & Derngate has a successful track record of producing exemplary professional theatre. Our young people work with professional artists in rehearsals and are supported by our resident production staff, meaning that they work with the same teams that produce our award-winning Made In Northampton programme. Our focus is creating a successful ensemble and process-driven environment – in simple terms, it’s about developing the young person as artists and as confident, creative young people, not who has the main part and who has the best costume.
Youth Theatre – For ages 7-12
Royal & Derngate Youth Theatre offers weekly workshops during term time for children and young people.
Our Youth Theatre is a great way to build confidence, make friends and learn new skills. All workshops are led by fully DBS checked, professional theatre practitioners who design projects that are fully inclusive and allow individuals to develop at their own pace.
Terms are usually 10 weeks long.

Royal & Derngate Young Company work on a variety of projects over the academic year that enable members to enhance skills, experience different theatrical approaches and work with a range of professional theatre practitioners and directors.
These groups allow participants to experience different creative paths based on personal preference, availability and enthusiasm.
Our Youth Theatre & Young Company productions follow creative processes found in Royal & Derngate’s professional Made In Northampton productions and allows young people to engage with designers, writers, technicians, choreographers and directors to establish artistic visions and gain valuable knowledge of how theatre is realised on stage.
Terms are usually 10 weeks long but may have additional sessions for groups rehearsing productions.
