A three week online course where young people from culturally diverse communities can connect, learn, share and grow together through fun and empowering wellbeing and spoken word activities led by actor, spoken word artist and dramatherapist, Eshmit Kaur.

Quest Story Challenge

Be the hero in your own quest adventure, create strange characters, solve puzzling challenges and produce your very own imaginative story using creative writing, illustration, animation and video.

This five week online Zoom course is great for anyone who loves using their imagination and having fun.

Act Up!

Develop your acting skills in this five week intensive course where you will work with theatre professionals, including Royal & Derngate’s Artistic Director, James Dacre, to explore key approaches to unlocking text, building complex characters and performing with confidence.

Great for anyone studying Drama at GCSE or Post-16, those preparing for auditions and anyone who wants to gain more confidence performing on their own or with others.

It is hoped that sessions will be in person, but in the event that this is not possible, activities will run on Zoom instead.

NextGen Creatives: Lighting Design

Royal & Derngate is delighted to partner with designer, theatre technician and architectural designer, Megan Lucas, to deliver a FREE 10 week online programme for those with a strong interest in lighting design. Sessions will develop your lighting skills using specially designed digital visualization and lighting software that will turn your home computer into a virtual lighting desk to create your own lighting designs for our Royal stage.

Also included is a Q&A session with Artistic Director, James Dacre, providing valuable industry insights into how a director works with a lighting designer on a production at Royal & Derngate.

This Lighting Design course is part of Royal & Derngate’s NextGen: Creatives programme providing industry training and experience to support the next generation of young designers, technicians, writers and theatre makers.

Musical Theatre

This year Royal & Derngate’s Musical Theatre groups are collaborating with Silhouette Youth Theatre to write a brand new musical for Summer 2021. This is an exciting opportunity to work with other local young actors and artists to develop a script, write songs, co-create a production, sing, dance and act together!

Sessions next term will be via Zoom until it is safe to sing and dance in large groups.
