Royal & Derngate hosts a number of annual festivals and special events that create imaginative and fun ways for all ages to take part in arts activities.

Fun Palaces

Everyone’s an artist, everyone’s a scientist.

Fun Palaces is an annual weekend of arts and science events created by, for and with local people.

For information about Fun Palaces, have a look at their website here. If you would like to get involved in future community activities at Royal & Derngate, contact Erica Martin or call 01604 655732.

National Theatre Connections

Connections is the National Theatre’s nationwide youth theatre festival. Each year it offers a unique opportunity for youth theatres and school theatre groups to stage new plays written for young people by some of theatre’s most exciting playwrights.

Each year Royal & Derngate hosts one of the regional festivals, with over 500 young people involved in over four days of fantastic workshops, creative activities and performances.

If you are interested in being a volunteer during festival week, contact Erica Martin.

Shakespeare Anniversary Weekend

Royal & Derngate marked the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death and celebrated his legacy with performance heritage tours across Northampton and a major ceremony in Abington Park.
