Royal & Derngate is a registered charity. We are grateful to our funders, Arts Council England, Northampton Borough Council and Northamptonshire County Council, and our many supporters for their ongoing commitment. Even though 80% of our income is generated through Box Office sales, our bars and café, the reality of cuts to our funding over the next few years have a significant impact on our ability to create and make work, and connect with far-reaching audiences.
We receive funding to create original theatre productions from our workshop, paintshop, and wardrobes – brought to life by some of the country’s leading creative teams and acting companies, all commissioned and sourced from within the walls of our buildings in Northampton. Our productions go on to touch thousands on tours across the country, in residencies in the West End or the National Theatre, and in other regional co-producing venues. Our artistic work, Made In Northampton, has a truly national and sometimes international reach – not bad for our small Midlands town. We believe we play a key role in the cultural life of Northamptonshire, in the health and wellbeing of our local society that values the arts and the experience of being part of an audience.
We are also committed to ensuring our theatres are for everyone – our creative learning programme encourages people to take part in a varied plan of weekly activities, encourages schools to attend performances and create workshops, prioritises hard to reach groups and offers one off projects – we reached in excess of 21,531 local people through this programme last year.
Please consider supporting us – from a small donation when booking your tickets, to joining one of our various membership schemes. Perhaps you’d consider associating your company with us, sponsoring a show, or leaving something in your will. Whatever you are able to give, it will play a vital part in sustaining our theatres’ futures.
